DC Chapter at Capital Area Food Bank
On Saturday June 18, 2016, several members and friends of the DC Chapter of IAEE participated in a community service project at the Capital Area Food Bank in Washington DC. This is part of an ongoing commitment on the part of the Chapter, to “give back” to community we live in. The Chapter has participated at the Food Bank for the last 5 years.
Up to 25 volunteers were on hand to sort and pack donated food items in several different categories so that they can be made available to send out to homeless shelters and food kitchens in the area.
On Saturday this group of volunteers sorted over 9,000 lbs. of donated food. That amount, according to the staff member on hand, will feed 7,500 people in need. (They calculate that 1 meal equals 1.2 lbs. of food) Once sorted and packed, the food is then shipped to various locations in the immediate area.
Thank you to our great team for donating their time to give back to the DC area!
The DC Chapter will be participating in this project again in November. Anyone interested in participating should contact DC Chapter Vice Chair, B. Murphy at bmurphy@fernexpo.com.
